Capacity Building and Training
Concept
In the present scenario with an increased mobility demand, there is a need to plan, design and enforce the mobility solutions by the ULBs. However with limited skilled resources and technical capacities, the ULBs and state governments are constrained to do so.
UMTC provides support to various government agencies and ULBs through providing technical assistance, training needs assessment programs, workshops and study tours to empower the officials with knowledge and best practices from across the world.
UMTC's approach to help cities in capacity building
Training Programs: The focus is to develop awareness, skills and deeper understanding of urban transport planning, provision of public transport services and integrated land use transport planning amongst officials working with state and city agencies. In this regard, UMTC has been conducting a number of training programs and workshops. UMTC has organized training programs and workshops on various subjects’ related to urban transport for MoUD, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) and other similar agencies.
Subject Modules and Training Material: UMTC has developed several educational and technical toolkits to assist the ULBs, state governments and bilateral agencies, e.g., preparation of subject modules and training manuals under SUTP – India for United Nations Development Program.
Study Tours: UMTC organizes international study tours for central, state and city officials to imbibe from the best practices followed across the world. We have conducted study tours to USA, UK, Europe, China, Taiwan, Turkey, Mexico, Columbia and Brazil to study and share best practices in multi-modal transit systems.
