Capacity Building And Training
The Government of India (GoI) has initiated the Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP) with support from Global Environment Facility (GEF), UNDP and the World Bank. It promotes building sustainable capacities in urban transport by enhancing the knowledge, skills and productive aptitudes of the practitioners, organizations / employees involved in the field of urban transport. Aforementioned aspects are promoted in the context of reforms necessitated by globalization, democratization, the information revolution and changing technologies.
Accordingly, UMTC - leading a Consortium of other Associates, has developed a set of 10 Subject Modules, each for a group of topics on subjects associated with sustainable urban transport planning. These ten modules are structured in such a way that they fulfill the end objective of creating the desired capacity amongst the practitioners, city officials etc.
The ten-Subject Modules developed are:
- Sensitization
- Institutional
- Financing and Cost Benefit Analysis
- Demand Assessment
- Urban Transport Planning
- Integrated Planning of Infrastructure
- Public Transport
- Environment
- Contracting
- Traffic Engineering and Traffic Management
In addition to the Subject Modules, a separate document titled “Instruction Kit – Instruction for Trainers” is prepared to provide the trainers with the knowledge required for the delivery of the subject.
Equipped with these Modules and Training material, UMTC has been conducting a series of capacity building workshops throughout India and training the City Officials in various fields of Urban Transport.
